Ireland Update

After a 4 days trip in Dublin, Ireland, I am back in Belgium (only for one day since tomorrow I go to Sweden)

Well here is a small update of what happend in Ireland, at the biggining I did not liked the city so much but after 2 days I really liked Dublin. I think it is a very dynamic city with lots of things to do (specially if you want to drink).

What I liked the most of Dublin is that you are not allowed to smoke even inside the bars, so on Saturday when we went out it was the first time that I went out of the bar and my clothes were not smelling horrible.
Also I love that everything is open on Sundays, not like in other parts of Europe where everythings is closed.

These trip was full of surprises and cool things, like sleeping in the airport, playing RISK in the airport, party hard Irish style, long walks in the city, nice food (I love fish and chips), nice drinks and many other things...

Here is a small slide show of some pics of the trip, I will upload others in my flickr account...

Antwerp Stakeholders event

Yesterday I went to the Stakeholders event of AIESEC Antwerp, it was a very nice evening, it was nice to meet the main partners of the LC but also to meet the parents of the LC members. I wish my family had the same opportunity to have a presentation of what AIESEC is, since I have been in AIESEC for almost 6 years but my family has not clear idea of what is AIESEC.

After the event it was the funny part, we took the last train to Brussels but that train is the ultra slow train, the normal train trip to Antwerp takes 45 min, with the train we took yesterday night it tooks 1:45 min. We were so tired and boring in the train...

Royal Palace Green house

On Sunday I went to the Royal Palace Green House and I can say it was a great experience, I am not a big fan of flowers, but the green house is very nice.

This Green house is property of the Royal family in Belgium and usually it is not open to the public, but during 20 days at the start of the summer it is open to the public.

Last year I did not knew it happend, so I am happy I made it this year...

Changing of topic today I had my first job interview, I guess it was ok, I will post more as soon as I know more information.

Goodbye Bafana

I just went to the movies and I saw the movie Goodbye Bafana and I can say it is a great movie.

It is about the story of Nelson Mandela while he was in jail.

I was very interested in watching this movie, specially after being in South Africa and I can say it helped me to understand some things that I saw there, specially the part of Rubben Island, when I was there in the tour they explain us some things but it is very different to see them in a movie.

I really recomend you to see this movie, here is the trailer (I only found it in french)

Boat trip and something else...

Yesterday I went on a boat trip here in Brussels, it was nice and I had fun :)

It was the first time I went by boat in Brussels and something I learned yesterday is that Belgium is all conected via channels, so you can go to most of the cities by boat.

Now it is finally summer in Belgium :) and the good thing is that I got suntan since South Africa so now my color will last for longer.

The other thing that I want to tell you is that today we had the general asambly to select my predecessor and some other things and I can say that it has been the strangest general asambly in my 6 years of AIESEC experience, at the end everything was ok.... tomorrow I will know who will be my succesor.

RYLA

Well after a great conference I am back home...

As I mention in my last post I attended this week the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), the topic of the conference was "Youth in Europe".

Well the conference was great :) , it was a small conference only 20 delegates, but we made a special atmosphere in the group that made it very interesting.

The topic of the conference was very interesting because it helped me realized more about the European Union, my favorite part of the whole agenda was the trip we did to the European Parlament, it was very interesting there and we had some talks with MEPs, also we had lunch in the cafeteria where MEPs have their lunch :) .

It was nice to attend a conference not organized by AIESEC, somethings where a little strange but you need to adapt to everything...

Happy Eastern!

Well maybe it is a little late to wish Happy Eastern to everybody but the intention is the thing that counts :)

Yesterday I celebrate the best eastern in my life, I usually never celebrate easten in Mexico we just go to church and that is all, but here in Europe it is a big thing for some people is even bigger than Christmas. I remember that 3 years ago I celebrated eastern in Poland and it was also a great experience. What made this eastern the best of my life was that I passed in company with my friends here in Belgium, we cooked, drinked and ate all together, it was a very nice day.

I also learned a lot of different eastern traditions of the different countries we where there.

Thanks a lot Elie, Annelies, Dan, Mada, Makis, Olga and Aleksander for a very nice eastern.

Changing of topic, tomorrow I am going to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award conference here in Belgium, the conference is for 4 days, so I will not update my blog during the conference, since there is no internet in the site.

Thanks for reading my blog and again Happy Eastern!

Organize, Party, Chocolate...

These 3 words describe my weekend so far...

This week we had a long weekend in Brussels, so since friday I have not done any AIESEC work, but this does not mean I have been doing nothing...
Well on Friday I decided to finally organize my room, my room was a mess (I still had not umpacked from my South Africa and also I had some stuff I brought from Mexico in my last trip that was still packed), so for the whole day I organize my room.

After that in the night I went partying in Brussels (it had pass long time since I party hard in Brussels) everything started in Amritha's house and then we passed by several bars, I came back home at 4:30 am. I can say it was great to party again in Brussels, for the last 6 months I was just so busy doing other things that I forgot how fun is to party in Brussels all night long.

Saturday I went to the chocolate festival and it was amazing! I do not know if you have seen the episode of the Simpsons when Homer goes to a candy festival and eats a lot, well the chocolate festival is like that, I tried so many different types of chocolate, I ate so much that I can not eat chocolate anymore...

Today is Eastern Sunday, so on my next post I will update on what happend during my eastern...
Here is a sceane of the episode of the simpsons i mention, it is in german...

Yesterday I went to my favorite restaurant in Brussels "Amadeo" I went to eat Ribs there...

It was a very nice evening in company of very cool people :) . Having nights like yesterday make me think and realize that I have good friends here in Belgium, but during the last months I kind of forget them...

Now I will try to change that and see them more often :)

Lady Vols! Champions!

Since my trip to Tennessee 4 years ago I am a fan of the University of Tennessee sports, mainly football and basketball, yesterday the woman basketball team won the national championship

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Up the ladder she climbed, and when Pat Summitt was within arm's length of the rim, she clipped the final strand of the net.
In one motion, the coach swung the nylon above her head and pumped her fist in the direction of Tennessee's hootin' and hollerin' fans.
The nine-year drought is over.
The Lady Vols reign again.
Showing it was much more than a one-woman team, the Lady Vols captured an elusive seventh national title Tuesday night, beating Rutgers all over the floor in a 59-46 win to reclaim their customary place above all other programs. Full story here

Playball!!!

Baseball season has just started :) , as I have mention lots of times before, the only thing I do not like of living in Europe is that nobody cares about baseball...

Anyway I will try to follow the Mariners online, this year might be the year they can win the championship.

The nice thing about opening day, all the teams have the same chance of winning...

Lets go M's!!!

Back in Europe

I am back in Europe, in fact I am in the airport in Frankfurt waiting for my flight back to Brussels. (I will post this when I am back home because internet is not for free in this airport).

Well during my 10 hour flight from South Africa to Frankfurt I was trying to sleep but also I did a lot of thinking…

Before going to South Africa I was very confused and also sad (to many things happening in my life that I could not control), now that I am back in Europe I am still confused but I am not sad anymore…

In South Africa I had the time of my life, I saw so many nice things and I did so many things that I always wanted to do:
- Go on a small Safari
- Touch a baby lion
- Ride a Safeway
- Gamble in a casino
- Get chased by a giraffe (not that I wanted to do it but it was fun)
- Get a new haircut
- Get a new mobile
- Go to the Cape of Good Hope
- Meet great people

There are lots of other things I did but if I put all I will never finish…

South Africa made me happy again and it made me rediscover who I was (for the last months I was not the real Pedro, I was trying to be someone different).
I did not discover all this by myself, I had very interesting talks during and after the conference, so I just want to thank all these people for helping bringing back my happiness.

Now it is back to “normal” life…. I am still confused but now I am happy...
